Occasionally I question (sometimes more than I would like!) why I chose to become a photographer. I mean, I just take pictures of architecture, interiors, landscapes and people... right? I can be plagued with self doubt and lack of confidence at times. Yesterday I was reminded why I chose this path, by an incredibly inspirational young woman with a very touching story.
I was fortunate enough to photograph this house yesterday. Now owned by Atlanta.
Last year Atlanta lost both her parents to illness and she inherited this magnificent cottage on Sydney's Northern Beaches - which she now rents out as holiday accommodation - designed, built and owned by her mum, an amazing artist, photographer and student of life. (Check out her mother's beautiful creations, some of which you will see on the walls of this cottage, here)
Atlanta, an only child, is now herself a mum of two girls and is a creative, talented, beautiful soul. Check out her amazing jewellery range here and here.
As I was listening to her story, a very personal and heart wrenching one, I couldn't help but think...never judge a book by its cover. We never really know what someone is going through do we? Here is this incredible young lady just doing the best she can with the cards she has been dealt. She described her circumstances as a gift. She has been reminded of just how special life is and that it can all change in the blink of an eye, so make the most of it.
It was then I remembered why I became a photographer. I am pursuing my dream. And along the way, I meet people who change my life. Life is too important and too short not to do what you love.
Thank you Atlanta for sharing your story with me and reminding me of my purpose.
